SYDNEY, August 29

After unavailing efforts to extinguish the fire aboard the Burns Philp steamer Moroinda, the vessel was flooded and sunk. The fire was noticed when leaving Brisbane, but was thought to have been extinguished. When within a few miles of Sydney it broke out again.

ADELAIDE. August 29. In the Assembly Mr Peake outlined his policy for the session. He said he proposed as soon as circumstances permitted to deal with the deficit, and pay off a portion yearly as a charge to the revenue- Bills were being introduced to enable soldiers and dependents to obtain homes on liberal conditions, and dealing with enemy property; and German names for towns and localities.
