LABOUR AND THE WAR.
MR. VEITCH'S SENTIMENTS
AUCKLAND, February 5. Mr Yeltch, M.P., speaking at a luncheon to members of the northern Parliamentary tour, said: "The man who says he- would just as well live under German rule as under British rule is a fool. We cannot allow men to talk like that. This war is not a football match. Our soldiers don't want barrackers; they want fighters. I was told that if I supported military service I would go out of office. In reply to that I say if a soldier is prepared -to risk his life for me I would be a coward if I were not prepared to risk my billet for him."
When Mr Veitch sat down all present stood up and gave him three roueins? cheers.
Mr Field, M.P., said Mr Veitch had expressed the sentiment of three-fourths or more of the Labour people of New Zealand.
