CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The council of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce met last night, when, there were present: Messrs T B. Williams (president), S. Holm, G. H. Pow. nall, C. E. Mackay, Allan Robinson. A. 11. Harris, S. Read, L. Bassett. RAILWAY MATTERS. The Railway Committee reported on various matters as follows :— Timetable.—The committee recommend the council to write to the Railway Department asking that the Chamber be advised of any contemplated alterations to the train service on the Wanganui section, in order that it may submit suggestions; and that the sco retary and Messrs A. Harris and C. H. Burnett gather all possible information dealing with the train service to Uanganui in the past, and the comparison with the present service with other centres in the Oominon. Demurrage.—The committee suggested that representations be sent to the General Manager, asking 4?hat the! by-laws governing the charge of demurrage be relaxed somewhat, owing to t!ie present difficult- position caused by the shortage of labour. Aramoho Junction.—With a view of minimising the risk of accidents, the committee suggest that a letter be sent to the local Railway Traffic Manager asking that more adequate means be adopted for notifying passengers of necessary changes and train movements at Aramoho Junction. The report was adopted.
