FEIDILNG J.C. MEETING.
TO-DAY'S RACING
Given fine weather, the* Feilding Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, which opens to-day, promises to be most;successful. As the fields in all the events with the exception of .the Spring Hurdles, are abnormally large, some interesting and exciting racing should ensue. Intending patrons-should note that the return train leaves at 6 p.m. for Wanganui.
The Aorangi Trial Plate, with which the meeting will open, has attracted 34 acceptors, but, owing to the lack of riders (apprentices who have not yet ridden five winners, according to the conditions of the race), it is probable that the number will be reduced by half. The most likely to be handy at the business end are Polynesian, Acre. Probation, and Try Again. The majority of the 21 carded in the Flying Handicap will fulfil their engagements, and this promises to be a great race. Ohiwai seems well treated with 7.13, but Lady Black and Moutoa Queen will be dangerous. Punters who rely on "horses for courses" should not overlook Interlude with 8.8; as she will strip well.
The St. Andrew's Handicap has a, very open appearance, and several good performers engaged appear to have excellent chances. The Feilding Cup winner, Orleans, has 8.5 to carry., ana! must run well, but Square Deal (8.10), Want (7.7). and Master Moutoa (7.3), appear to have the measure of the field at the weights.
Owing to yiadinn being a non-star-ter, the Spring Hurdles will be contested by three, Marton, Sir Donald, and Glenovchy, and'the Mahaki gelding has only to jump kindly, though Glenorchy, if well, is worth considering-
Twenty-two have paid up for the Waituna Hack Hurdles, and the best of these seem to be Jem (11.1), Record (10.10), and Portland Lady (9.13). '
In the Feilding Stakes, the "classic"
race, there are some exceptionally good sprinters engaged. Bisogne, Crowhurst and Rangitero may be expected to attract the judge's attention..
Thirteen are on the card in the Kiwitea Welter, in which Client has f<.lo. The son of Achilles should run a sterling race. 1.-.;t mjiy be troubled by Atuatoro and Martial Air.
The large field of twenty-nine is expected to line up for the Fitzroy Hack, which will conclude the day's sport. Tf Zola is the racehorse he is claimed by his admirers to be, he Tias a good chance of proving it, as the distance, seven furlongs, should suit him. Lady Frisco, Analogue and Multaine are his most dangerous opponents.
Tlve attention ol horse-owjtfM\s- is drawn to the Auckland Racing Club's advertisement in another column, dealing with th? entries, acceptances and forfeits Tor the forthcoming summer meeting.
