Word was received yesterday that Captain Chaplain H. J.-. Biamires is at present attached io the New Zealand base in England.
Miss A. &. Rowe, of Rongotea, was a successful candidate at the recent State examination for the registration of trained nurses.
Corporal Fred. Hill, son of Mrs. K. Hill, of 310 Victoria Avenue, is reported as having been wounded, during the recent fighting on the Western front. Corporal Hill went away with, the Main Body and has been through all the Gallipoli campaign.
A private cable received in town yesterday stated that Sergt. Cameron Campion, son of Mr James Campion, of Okirae, has arrived in Sydney. Sergt. Campion, who is attached to the Australian forces, wont away with the Main Body. He was wounded during the fighting in Gallipoli.
Rev. J. Dawson, cf the New Zealand Alliance, arrived by train last night and leaves again this morning. Out of 160 applications, Mr.i MacLeod, of Iwiroa, was appointed fat stock buyer tor the Oroua and West Coast Product Co. Prior to taking up the management of the Iwiroa estate, hfe was buyed in Hawke's Bay for the Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay Freezing Co.
Colonel (now Brigadier) Wilson, who was reported severely wounded some days ago ; is, according to later advice just received by his brother-in-law, Mr W. J. Poison, in a precarious condition. He is suffering from a dangerous gunshot wound right through the body, which, it is feared, may result in serious spinal trouble. Brigadier Wilson has been removed from France to England, and the message states that it will be at least a fortnight before the doctors will be able to pronounce as to the possibility of saving his life.
The late Captain Hammond, whose name appears in th a casualty list, was well known in Wanganui. He was formerly a Quartermaster-Sergeant in the B. Company of the 7th ftegiment, afterwards taking over the command of a Cadet company. He joined the Group Area as a Sergeant-Major, and, obtaining a commission, left with the advance party of the Rifle Brigade. He received the rank of Captain while on active service. Captain Hammond, who resided at Gonville, was a very highlyrespected officer, and a wide circle- of friends will mourn his end. He leaves a wife and three young chjldren, with whom much sympathy will be felt.
