PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

The usual weekly meeung of the Pa. trio tic Committee was held yesterday afternoon, ivir. X. ,±J. .Williams presiding.

Meuli, on behalf of the Committee appointed to nnd more suitabi* rooms, reported as to a number of otiices which had been offered, rent ires, After carefully considering the respe> tive premises, the Committee recommended that the offices in. Ridgw*y Street, erstwhile occupied by the Hospital Board and offered rejit free until six months after the declaration of peace, be accepted,- and that Mr. C. Jj. Buigan be thanked for his generous offer. It was also resolved to thank the owners of the other properties which had been placed at the Committee's disposal. Authority,was given to the Committee to procure the necessary furnishings.

A motion, of which Mr. Louis Cohen had given notice, providing for the I rectification of an error in the minutes 1 of the meeting of 7th June, was moved by Mr. Cohen, seconded by Mr. E. A. j Campbell, and carried. Reports by the Lands, Grants «nd Motor-car Committees were presented and adopted. On behalf of her son, Mr. Herbert Babbage, now serving with the forces i in England, Mrs. Babbage of St. John'a I Hill, wrote offering one of his pictures to the Patriotic Society, to be disposed of by them as they think fit, the proceeds to go to the patriotic funds. Resolved to accept the offer,- with thanks. A letter was received from the Chief Secretary of the Salvation Army, notifying the opening of three additional orphanages, primarily for the benefit of-children of fallen soldiers. These homes are located respectively at Auckland, Russell and Temuka. The terms of admission were stated to 'be : For the children of fallen soldiers, the full amount allowed by the Pensions Board; ! for children of soldiers still at thft front, a minimum of 7s 6d per week: for the children of widowers deserving to enlist, 7s 6d per week. For thes" amounts the Army undertakes to house, feed, clothe and educate -he children. '■■''' On the application of Mr. J. Brine, local representative of the Red Cross, it was respited to provide a motor ara'bulance for use on the vVestern front.
