GRENADIERS (Red).

The War Correspondent writes: — It is simply wonderful how the Grenadiers captured their present position and are hanging on with the utmost confidence of ultimate smccess. Our storming party are \rell supplied with hand grenades, and have ousted the enemy from several trenches. The troops are in great heart and are determined to carry all before them.

Castlecliff residents were curious to know the cause of the s.s. Stormbird having a decided list to port on arrival from Wellington recently. We have ascertained from the local agents that the Stonnbird was a full boat, having transhipped all the toys consigned to Mr. A. A. Gower, chemist, Wanganui, for decorating the Christmas tree at Paddy's Market. We can supply 3000 children, with three toys each.

Messrs. Purser and Son, the furnishers, have given the Grenadiers a fine three-quarter billiard table for playing on at Paddy's Market and to be disposed of by art union.

The Grenadiers have commandeered the Rutland and Chavannes* balconies for Thursday. Upon payment of 6d, the finest view in town can be obtained of the procession. Get up early for box seats!

"Every home has some piece of plated ware that has not been put out of use and is really not wanted. If you give this to the Grenadiers' special silver stall, it. will be sold to best advantage. The Grenadiers have received a beautiful old set of solid silver toddy snoons of rare value. It will assist the wounded boys.

Mr J. P. Williamson has given a beautiful walking-stick to the Grenadiers. It is made of ebony and. ivory, and is valued by experts at £10. It is the work of natives of " Darkest Africa." The stick will be disposed of by art nnicn.

Mr George Ross's horse, gig and harness will be out on parade to-day; also Mr Jack Foster's gift racehorse.

The Winter Gnrden will be the great attraction at Paddy's Market — the beer arrived by the Breeze on Monday from Dunedin. Beer, biscuits and cheese will be the centre of attraction.

A billiard saloon will be opened alongside the Winter Garden.

Regiments wanting the use of the theatre' in Paddy's Market during the Carnival for the purpose of giving entertainments are requested to send in their applications at once to Mr W. Veitcli, the secretary of Paddy's Market Committee.
