SHOCKING FATALITY.
TRAIN MUTILATES A MAN.
lr*er Press Association,) CHRISTCHURCH, April 9. A shocking fatality occurred in thet early hours of this morning, Timothy O'Connor, a labourer, residing at Islington, losing his life throxigh being, run over by a railway engine. The fatality occurred shortly after 1 a.m., about half a mile south of the Islington railway station. The driver of the midnight goodstrain from Christehurch to Ashburton^ shortly after leaving Islington, noticed a man apparently lying across the rails. He immediately applied the emergency brakes, ibut unfortunately tthe 'train, happened to be a very heavy one and he-could not pull up in time. The result was that the unfortunate man wasdraggecl same 40 yards under the engine and his body was terribly mangledDeath must have been instantaneous.
O'Connor was a single man and was well known in Islington.
