AUCKLAND, April 10

His Majesty the King is Colonel-in Chief of the Third (Auckland) Mounted Rifles. When General Godley, Commandant of the Forces, was et Home recently, he interested himself in the matter and made inquiries from Colonel Seeley (who was then Minister for War) whether it would be possible to secure a picture bearing His Majesty's autograph. The Minister was much interested, in the idea and asked if he might present the regiment with one. : The General accepted the offer and the portrait, at a representative gathering of; all ranks of the regiment at the Officers' Club yesterday afternoon, was handed over to Colonel Bloomfield for the regiment by the Governor.
