LADIES' COLUMN

PERSONAL. (By " Joai. , Miss -Ruthertcrcl, who is to be married to Mr Gordon Babbage almost immediately, was the guest of honour at a handkerchief tea given by Miss Anderson, the Avenue. The hostess was charmingly gowned in white embroidered muslin. 'Mrs John Anderson wore t> handsome black chiffon taffeta gown, and Miss Rutherford was daintily gowned in cream voile. A most enjoyable time was spent and the bride-elect received some vpi-y dainty handkerchief gifts.

Whilst in Wanganui, the Hon. A. L. Herdman, accompanied by the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs T. B. Williams) motored to Castlecliff. They were delighted with the fine tea kiosk, nnd considered it compared very favourably with buildings of its kind in Wellington.

The afternoon tea on Thursday in ■connection with the opening of the Public Trust office was a very dainty one, and although Dustin's Ltd. catering is always of a very high standard it was excelled on this occasion. .Every toothsome dainty was to be found on the prettily arranged tables, and the ices were simply delicious. The official party occupied tables placed on a raised dias. und the other guests sat at the occasional tables. The Garrison Band played some very choice selections, which viere very much enjoyea. Among those present were Mrs Herdman. who wore a smart tailored costume of saxe blue, and blue and black hat. .She carried a bouquet of heliotrope daisies. Mrs Fitclictt, pale grey embroidered' voile dress, close fitting black hat. with white ostrich plume; Mrs Yeitch, brown tweed coat and skirt, brown velour hat, with tangerine wings; Mi's E. N. Liffiton, black, black hat with touches of violet; Mrs Pearce, navy blue coat and skirt and black felt hat; Miss Cohen, black silk dress with Mack brocaded1 coat, hat to match; Mrs Keesing, navy blue <ujat" and skirt, with a pretty black hat; -Mrs Bignell, a dainty save blue dress, black hat; Mrs McParlane, pale grey voile dress with black Jiat with ostrich plumes; Mrs Dr. Wilkin, amethyst coat and skirt, hat _tp match; Mrs Stevenson, blue coat and skirt, and brovm hat; Miss saxe blue silk dress, with black hat; Miss V. WU~ Hams, pale grey coat and skirt, with red' velvet hat; Mrs Braik, black coat and skirt, black hat with a pink ostrich plume; Mrs Nixon^ white lace coat and skirt, with orange colour hat; Miss Nixon, white dress and hat to snatcih; Mrs Cooper, sweet saxe blue dress, white satin hat with pink roses; Mrs T. B. Williams, mauve coat and skirt, "black bat wjith ostrich j>luniqs; Mrs James Watt, pale grey figured silk i white hat with ostrich plumes; Miss Murray, pretty Havender' voile dress, trimmed with i-eal lace, white and black bat; -Mrs Sampson, pale blue shot silk dress and hat to miatch; Mrs Alf. Burnett, black coat and skirt and black hat; Mrs Wray, black velvet coat and skirt, black hat with ostrich plume; Mrs Mao kay, sax© blue satin coat, white hat with pink roses; Mis G. Currie, Mrs T. Taylor, Mrs George Harper,, Mrs Izard, Mrs Staveley, Airs Whiteman, All's Harry Harper and many others.

The Misses Brettarghs gave a most enjoyable tea for Miss Leihbridge. The book title competition was won by Miss O. Cooper.. The competition was most interesting and a very enjoyable time was sper-t,
