"WATER WASTE."
To the Editor
Sir, —I am sure the residents of the higher levels are indebted to and ap-preciate-the firm stand and remarks of the S.M. in the water -piste cases which came before him last week. If the water wasters in the lower levels were deprived entirely of water from early morning until late at night, as iare those living on St. John's and Durie Hills, they would indulge in a: little loss selfishness. Just imagine being without water from eight a.m. until ten p.m. not only for domestic purposes, but for flushing the patent conveniences. There is no town in New Zealand where such wanton waste obtains. At Goiwille, where every house has a water meter, the consumption per diem per capita is four gallons. On the lower levels of the Borough it is over one hundred and fifty gallons (150 gallons). Might I point out that these short-siehted, selfish people will assuredly".kill the goose with the golden eggs.'" They .will force the Council to compel every house to have a meter. Surely the hours allotted by the Council for using garden hose are more than ample. The old axiom here of "a word to the wise" is peculiarly applicable.—l am, etc.,
