DIiNEDIN WOOL SALES.

Tho first of the local wool sales was held to-day, when there was the largest" gathering of buyers ever seen here, representing British. Continental and American purchasers in addition to New Zealand buyers. The total offering comprised 8271 bales. The condition of tho' wool was superior to that of last season, but a number of good clips spoiled by old seed Were cut out of American competition and reduced prices by fully 2d. per lb. Competition was extremely animated. The following is tho range of prices:—Merino super 12d. to 13d:, medium to good lOd. to ll£d., inferior to heavy conditioned BJd. to ' 9kL, halfbred super 13d. to 14d., medium to good 10|d. to 12|d., inferior 9d. to 10d., crossbred .super 12d. to 13£ d., medium to good 9-Jd. to 11-|d., inferior B^-d. to 9d., pieces, super 10£ d. to 12^d., medium to good Bfd. to 10d., inferior Okl. to Bd., locks 4d. to 7d.
