THE FRUIT SUPPLY.
The approaching Christmas 'will be a season of plenty so far as fruit is concerned, according to information, gained hy a "Star" reporter. - Sltiiiawiberries are in good supply, land in addition to those consumed locally, albout a thousand' ciases are despatched eiaoh ivteek to Wellington. This is apparently one cause' which contributes.to the fairly high prices which ore.now ruling, dbout 6d to lOd .per 'box. InHpoint of size t'bo beiiries are up to the etland'ard, iandi they -give promise of continuing so ilnii?il albout the end of the currenlb month. Of other GimiaTl fruits, plums are most plentiful, and they tare amiflafoie at about 7s or 8s per case in the mants1. Lo.oal cherries, never in very great supply, are layout the. same as usuial m regard, to the quantity available, «and their worth is va/booit 6;d to 8d per Ib. ex store. -There will ,be piums and cherries in Auckland for the next couple of rnonifchs, but apricots (now 7s to 8s per case) will have disappeared after 1 the end of January. Peaches aire short this season , but they ivMl neverithteUtessl continue until the end of Marcli. Apples are out of season just now, hut they will be in again labotsft the first W€bk in Januiary. Mieara-,vh(ile, Jocal shops are d&pondenit upon the importation' of Canadian lapwles, and these are turning out wall, although, the price is I stiff—l6s to 18s per case.
