AUCKLAND CHASTISED

(Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, September 27

At to-day's sitting of the Seamen's Conference Council, the following resolution was - passed • unanimously :*—. That this Council is surprised at the unpatriotic attitude of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, led b.y Mr Gunf:on, which has publicly advocated subsidisihg a foreign-owned mail service between America and the Dominion when there are local companies quite prepared to undertake the service, the requirements of which, in the shape of crew, coal, stores, and other, necessaries would be drawn from the resources of the ■Dominion, thereby employing our own people and deriving all the advantages of the subsidies granted by the Dominion to this service, in addition to which there would be the strengthening of those bonds of .Empire which the community was desirous of fostering.
