A DANGEROUS PRACTICE.
To the Editor
Sir, —May I, through the medium of your correspondence columns, call the attention of whoever are "the powers that ba"' to the very dangerous practice of driving loose horses along the Putiki road at night, which is being carried on by some persons at the present time. I was riding on my bicycle into town a few nights since, "and met
a, number of the animals which, were trotting along smartly, and were scattered over tho road. I only succeeded in avoiding a collision by riding down on to the side of the road out of the way. If iijb were possible always Jto avoid an accident by doing that, it would not be a very serious matter, but the horses take up the whole roadway, and not being under control one never knows what they will do. I .remarked to the person in charge that he had no light to drive loose horses on that road, and received from him an impudent answer. I intend this letter as a hint to the owner of the animals that he is transgressing the bye-laws, and that in case of accident he is liable for heavy damages. In the meantime if the practice continues I will take the shortest and sharpest means of stopping it myself. —Yours,- etc.,
PUTIKI
