Tho Federal Minister of Customs, addressing the delegates to the Imperial Chamber of Commerce Congress, said that British manufacturers had not acquainted themselves with Australian requirements, with the result that foreign rivals had consistently benefited. The preferential concessions made by the Commonwealth to Britain meant a rebate in Customs duties for the first year of its trial of £828,000 sterling.
