A PROTEST.
(To the Editor.)
! Sir, —In to-night's "Ilerald," in a paragraph connected with Football Notes, I notice with regret that a slander has been cast on certain members of the club which I represent on the Rugby Union, and I must deny 'most emphatically the insinuation contained therein, and it is to be hoped that in the future the writer will ascertain the facts before writing that which he cannot prove. The facts of the case are these (which I defy anyone to deny):— At the last meeting of the Rugby Union I was deputed to collect jerseys from my club to save the Union the expense of buying new jerseys, wihch would havo cost them £4 2s 6d (one member thought it would be a fair thing to pay £1 Is for the use of jerseys). The day before the match I rang up the secretary and asked if he could procure | tickets for those who I had to borrow fom. I got the passes and handed one to each of the players that I procured a jersey from, and in no case was there a refusal. Most of the players did not want the passes, but I insisted on their taking them. Thanking you in anticipation, —I am, etc., ALF. GRAY. June 11th, 1909.
