THE HOSPITAL GROUNDS.
TiiE decision of the Hospital Board to give effect to the recommendations made by the late Mr Alexander Laird' in 1903, is to be commended. It is a| pity that circumstances have not ] hitherto enabled the Board to give more: than very inadequate effect to Mrj ■ Laird's suggestions. Had it been posr. siblo to do so the Hospital grounds! would by this time have assumed a j much more picturesque appearance than they have to-day. However, bet-' ter late than never. > As to the desir- ; ability of beautifying the grounds of such an institution, and: making the outward surroundings as bright and attractive as possible, the- Board has' authorised an expenditure up to £200 for this purpose,and what is now wanted is practical help sfrom the public iiT the shape of contributions of suitable shrubs, flowers, etc. There are, we! have no doubt,, many people who .will be pleased to help in?this matter, eitherb/ giving the necessary plants or monetary contributions towards their purchase. Communications on the subject should be addressed to the secretary of, the Hospital Board. ;
