CHRISTCHURCH, March 28. Lieut. Shackleton and the officers and men of the Antarctic expedition attended the thanksgiving service at the Cathedral this morning, when there was a large congregation. In the course of the sermon bo said ho had no sympathy with those who said that no adventure should be f'-ngagod en unless there was money in it, nor with those who said "that "men lv.d no right to risk their lives in the pirsuit of that, which, as they thought, fv.emed of little value to the world. Continuing, he said, "New Zealand has donr- well to give her Dreadnought to the Imperial services and having give* it I trust everyone will have a measure ot: s»mo sacrifice in that gift and pay for it, but my brethren, it is these men that aro - our Dreadnoughts. The Dreadnought that we are building dreads nothing because it knows nought, these men dread nought beon >i~-> there is in them handed down t 1 rongh iho long ages gathered from th. ir fathers, granted to them by the grace of G-od that courage that can endure the proof, strength for service Iliat can carry them through infinite dirg^rs, and I can see the heart of the whole nation is lifted up because they know that besides the ships, we have the men who can stand to our country in her need, men that can live and die for love of her."
