In " response 1 to \ir- deputation; the- Governor of the Wellington College, who protested against taking, ten acres of their ground for Victor^ Colleg, the Premier said there should be -no interference' with the', play ' ground, and compensation would x be provided.' He thought, however, they could .find rooln out of the 70 acres. If the Vic-, toria College authorities, waited '■ for the. Mount Cook site, they would wait a long time, for he could sit as. tight as anyone. He commented on the absence of forethought in the past, and the lack of generosity among the richer citizens.
