THE PLEIADES. CITY MAIN ROLL. NO MORE TELEGRAPH OPERATORS WANTED FOR SOUTH AFRICA. Pfr Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 1. The Himiatangi leaves for the East Const to-night to bring the officers and crew oft' the Pleiades to Wellington. The main roll for the City »{ Wellington electorate has been published. It contains the names of 17,628 electors. Mr Gray, Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, has been advised that no more telegraph operators are wanted for South Africa., the required number having been obtained in Australia. The Magisterial inquiry into the striking of the steamer Pareora on a rock near Oamafa Heads, on September 15, b?gan today. The evidence showed she bumped twice. The chief officer had been left 'n charge of the bridge, but an hour later he aroused the captain, saying there was a fog bank ahead. This turned out to be land, and the vessel touched as she was oeing brought round. Not much damage was done. The inquiry was adjourned til! Friday. J
