THE HOSPITAL SITE.

TO THE BDITOE. Sib, — lhe Herald is at the Ho3pital Board again, and I am notsurprsedtosee its editor finding some fault with Mr Carson aa toon an possible after his return. If it was left to the Herald, of coarse they could settle the question of hospital site right off. This would Bare a lot of trouble, no doubt, but it is quite another thing whether we should do the best under the circumstances. It is quite true that an acre in a' corner of the domain was granted for a muEcura Bite, but does it follow that therefore we mu3t let a hospital have three or four acres in the best part of it. I think also that the medical men only expressed an opinion as to the town being m danger from infection with the building placed in the i centre of the town — while for that matter I suppose a mile would not make very much difference. I for one am glad to see the Hospital Board have some backbone in them, and take a rite away from the town, where they can have an acreage for paddocks, etc. The cost of water supply has been pnt down at .£IOOO, and thet. we are told there will be no pressure. In that case why not bore for arteßian water. 'When the new hoßpitul is built the present system of paid visiting surgeons will have to be altered, and with veiy little " extra expenditure " a resident snrgesn can be appointed, who will be there when cases are brought in or at night in cases of emergency when a ip wanted. And then, as the Herald suggests, the other doctors would no doubt be willing to act as honorary physicians and surgeons, taking so many beds each and a regular rotation of duty. This is don^in many of the larger hospitals elbetgjtere, and I feel sure will be the plan attempted here. I for one hope the Hcspital Board will be steadfast in their opinion arrived at, no doubt after mature consideration oa their part.— l am, 4c, Z.
