■ (Pee Press Association.) [ Wellington, Ootobor 8. The Premier addressed the electors of ' Wellington suburbs at Petone last night in support of Mr T. Wilford, whom Mr , Seddon announced had been selected as Government candidate. The Mayor pre- ' sided, and there was a large attendance, including a number of ladies. The Premier reviewed the work of the session > and blamed the Council for not passing various Wills calculated to improve the condition cf the labouring classes. He i stated most ' emphatically that the Government was determined not to extend the tenure of the Railway Commissioners . for another year, but said he had not | exactly decided on the course to pursue. , Sir Patrick Buckley, the Hon. J. Carroll, ana Mr Wilford also addressed the meetiug. A special vote of thanks was passed and also enthusiasm displayed, ' The Premier states that in view of the 1 treatment of Government measuies by the Lngislative Council, it is intended to ask for further appointments to that • branch of the legislative. The number , is not yet fixed, but the-, matter will I shortly be considere.d.in" Cabinet, j Mr Seddon states he will contest either ; his present seat or Wellington city at the j general election. The Premier will 'address a publio meeting at , Foilding on Saturday next, and he leaves for the South the following week, whero he will deliver political addresass. Sir E. Stout and Mr McLean announce j themselves as candidates for the city. I At a meeting convened by circular it was decided to invite Messrs J. Duthie and D. Bell to ccntest the city.
