The Secretary then read the annual report, which touched upon the various conte3is in which the Club had entered into during the year. Saven working and fourteen honorary members joiaed the Club during the year, and three members were transferred -from the honorary to the working members' list. Three sets of trophies were presented for competition during the season. A set of cups presented by Messrs Rod well and Hughes, wero won by M. Keegan (stroke), T. Dewson (3), J. Cronin (2), T. O'Shannssey (bow) ; also.asetof cups presented by Mr W. B. Patrick, were won by I. P. Crichton (stroke), It. Jarrett (3), T. Dewson (2), J. Cathro (bow). The third set ware offered for competition by the Club's worthy president, JP. M. Spurdle, Esq., but owing to the lateness of the ■Wellington Eegatta, and the inclement state of the weather it, was decided by your committee, with the donor's consent to postpone the competition \intil thiß coming season. The Club was represented at tlio. Wanganui and Wellington regattas, but their efforts were attended with very moderate success. d.t. the Wanganui Regatta the Club entered crews for the two senior events, Ladies' Plate, Junior, and Maiden races. The] senior crew failed to show up in either | of their races. The Maiden crew were beaten on the post, after a magnificent race, by the Wellington Rowing Club, whilst in the Junior race the same crew again obtained second placo. The Ladies' Plate was won by the crew entered for this event, and the same crew obtained third place in the junior race. The following members composed the various ccew3 :— Senior events— J Bates (stroke), M. Keegan (3), M. Barr (2), J. Carrel (bow). Ladies' Plate and Junior races— W. Bodwoll (stroke), W. J. Mahoney (3). Poynter (2), Eankin (bow). Maiden and Junior races— F. O'Shannessey (stroke), W. O'Halloran (3), J. Cronin . (2), P, j Keegan (bow). At the Wellington Eegatta the Club was .represented by 'F. O'Shannessey's and Kodwell's crews, the former obtaining second place in the Maiden, and third intho Junior. Unfortunately the Maiden crew had to row- in a strange boat, quite sufficient to preclude any chance of their winning. Reference was mado in the report to the valuable services rendered to the Club during the late flood by Mr J. Quin, the custodian, whereby the loss of che staging was prevented. The cash statement ' was then read by the Treasurer, Mr Kodwell, showing that the Club was in a satisfactory condition financially. The Chairman moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, and at the same time referred to tho training of the members. He had heard it said at Wellington that, had they a river in that city similar to ours they would go in 'for training all the j-ear round, and he thought there was little reason why the' Wanganui men should not train aa long as possible, and he thought they would find that thero were only a few weeks in the year during which they could not get on tho river. With regard to this matter.TJr Rodwell (Captain) pointed out that such a course might be followed in Wellington where there were many men who gave up the whole of their spare time to rowing only, whereas, in the Union Club most of the members indulged in other sports, such for instance as football, and when .training for ether things it was not possible for them also to train ou the river. Speaking on another subjact, the Captain said he would advise the incoming committee to give their earnest consideration to the providing of a n- w outrigger of a more modern type than those which they use at present. A'tfew more members' having spoken to the balance-sheet, that, and the report were unanimously adopted by the meeting- ' .-.••' The following officers were elected:— President, Mr P. M. Spurdle; vicePresident, Messrs Aiketi.and J. Stewart ; Captain, Mr Rodwell.j/beputy-Captain, Mr E. Haokpttj Secretary, Mr Howard; Treasurer, Mr W. Rodwell ; General Committee, Messrs J. Rarason, Kruse, Chalk, Poyntur, Bates, Gray, and Pawson; Auditor, Mr Hughes; Selection Committee, Messrs Hackett and Bates ; Deputy-Captain for Aromoho, Mr Murray; Arouaoho Committee, Messrs Keegan, J. Carrel, aDd J. Cronin. Mr Eamson having desired not to be nominated for re-election as hon, secretary, Mr Rodwell proposed that a hearty vote of thanks should be tendered to him for his valuable services whilst he filled the duties of Secretary, which motion waß seconded by Mr W_. H. G. Foster, and carried with acclamation. Mr Eodwell made a few further remarks concerning the use of the shed by members, and asked, that honorary and other members using the tubs- would kindly see. that they were properly : moored when done with, whereby the danger of loss would be done away with. The meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman.
