The revolt in Guatemala was sup-, pressed after three days' fighting, President Barillas has declared himself Dictator. The revolt in Guatemala occurred on September 26th, on the occasion of the. national holiday. Orators who were addressing the people were.chased and stoned, and cries were raised of " Down with Barillas and Government tyranny." Violent speeches were made by the leaders of the mob until a battalion of infantry arrived and charged with fixed bayonets. A battle ensued, the mob using revolvers. . Artillery joined the infantry, and street .fighing wenttra f6r three days, each party alternately having control of the city. A reign of terror ensued, but after 600 people' had been* killed, troops came in from the provinces and restored the supremacy of the Government. Martial law was at once proclaimed. Colonel Jabon shot General Sauchez, and the brother of the latter in turn shot Jabon. Barillas ordered the execution of the brother. Quezzaltenago at latest advices had revolted, and 1000 men. were supporting the leaders. • It is reported the Government of San Salvador is moving a corps to the frontier, and proposes to invade Guatemala in the event of tho rovolfc spreading.
