Wellington, February 26. As bearing upon the telegram from Auckland respecting the Newton seat, itmay- be , mentioned that • the Premier claims Sir George Grey as a Government supporter. Speaking o'f the by-elections, the Hon. Mr Ballancosaid it was the determination of the Government to fight every election in the keenest possible manner.
