I Ladies and Gentlemen, — I would respectfully inform you that, having been urgently requested by a considerable number of your body to become a candidate for the office o iMayor of the ■ new Borough of Hawera, I take this opportunity of announcing to you that I am a candidate for the ofiice of Mayor at the forthcoming election. I do so with confidence, knowing that you are well aware that my interests are equally bound up with your own in the iiiture progress and prosperity of the new Borough. ' Should you honour me with your confidence on this occasion, I shall endeavour to serve yon in the future as in the past, faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability. If returned, I would be in favour of raising a small loan for the purpose of opening up and forming all roads, streets, and footpaths within, the Borough, and having the centre, at least, of all the streets metalled ; and of the erection of Borough Chambers suitable to the requirements of the Borough.
