I On the celebration of the Queen's birthday, Eail Carnarvon entertained the Colonial representatives at a state banquet. The Duke ot Edinburgh was present. All Australasian securities are very firm. June 3. The Derby was won by Cartwright's *' George Frederick,' Lord Roseberry's ' Couronne De Fer' second, and Lord Falmouth's
' Atlantic* was third. Twenty horses started, ■': ' Couronne De Fer ' was the favorite at starting. ' Aquila,' 'Atlantic,' and 'George Frederick ' were also backed. June 4. The Bank rate of discount 'has been reduced to 3 per cent. \ June 5. Jl ' Apology ' was the first horse in the Oakes ; ' Miss Totts ' second ; and * Lady Patricia ' third' June 6. The money market is easy. The corn market is unchanged. At the wool sales, competition continues vigorous, and very firm. 2,224 bales have been sold. The French demand is larger.
