LOYAL SERVICE
COUNCILLOR W. I. ARMSTRONG’S RETIREMENT. COUNTY COUNCIL TRIBUTE. Tributes to the splendid service rendered by Councillor W. I. Armstrong, who is not seeking re-election on account of ill-health, were paid at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Masterton County Council. The chairman, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee,, in referring to Councillor Armstrong's services moved the following motion: — “That on the eve of Councillor W. I. Armstrong’s retirement from active participation in local government affairs after 28 years of continuous service as a member of the Masterton County Council representing the Wainuioru Riding many years of which he held the office of chairman and its representative on the Wairarapa Hospital Board. No. 10 Wairarapa District Highways Council and other district organisations, this council places on record the outstanding and loyal service rendered to the district and the, tact he displayed in the conduct of the council’s business which was characterised by the highest sense of public duty throughout the whole of his public career.” The motion was seconded by Councillor J. W. Colquhoun and was carried unanimously. Tribute was paid by all councillors to Councillor Armstrong’s sterling services and it was stated that he had always given of his best.
