CRIPPLED CHILDREN
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA , SOCIETY. WELFARE OFFICER’S WORK. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa Crippled Children’s Society was held yesterday afternoon, Mr E. M. Hodder presiding over a full attendance. A welcome was extended to Mr G. G. Hancox and Mr Hodder expressed the appreciation of the executive to him for the services that he had already rendered to the society and for again taking an active part in the work. Reports were presented by Mrs S. N. Kilgour, Welfare Officer, on the month’s work and also on the orthopaedic clinic held at Greytown, Masterton and Pahiatua by Dr. Walter Robertson on April 12 and 13, both of which showed that most satisfactory work was being carried out. Thirty-eight cases had been personally interviewed on her* quarterly visit to the northern zone, including Eketahuna, Pahiatua and Pongaroa,. and 54 cases were examined at the clinics. A special report was submitted by a sub-cOmmittee on the estimate of travelling to be done throughout the year and this was adopted. It was learned with regret that Mrs M. Brooking was leaving Greytown for Auckland and it was decided to write expressing the society’s keen appreciation of the work that she had done in speech training for three cleft palate cases, all of which had shown marked improvement. Appreciation was also expressed at the action of the Pahiatua Rotary Club in forwarding a donation of £l2 10s to assist the society’s activities. Two new members were elected. The annual accounts were submitted showing a gross income of £390 of which £3lB had been spent, leaving a surplus for the year of £72. Of the total expenditure, over £lOO was spent on surgical work for which excellent results had been obtained. The annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 30.
