MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL WIDENING OF MASTERTON STREETS. TRIBUTE TO OFFICERS. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held in Masterton last night. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, presided. Plans for the widening of Bannister Street were approved by thy council. The Cawthron Institute advised that supplies of the gorse weevil would be forwarded in September or October for release in Masterton. An offer by Mr Albert Jones to sell for £2O a small piece of land at the end of Cricket Street to enable an extension of the street was accepted. It was stated that an award by the arbitrators of £2,300 had been made for the A. C. Hoar property at the corner of Queen and Park streets to enable the widening of Park Street io be> carried out.

Councillor White paid a tribute to the work of the Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson and the Sanitary Inspector, Mr T. A. Russell. Councillor Grey said that, both officers had done a wonderful job. Other councillors expressed appreciation of their services and referred to the splendid annual reports furnished by them. “I think that- the ratepayers should be grateful that they have such splendid officers,” said Mr Jordan. Mr Jordan expressed pleasure that the building figures in Masterton for the past 21 years amounted to £1,263,069.
