4 TANKS PATROLLING STREETS OF COPENHAGEN DEATH PENALTY FOR POSSESSION OF ARMS NEW ACTS OF SABOTAGE (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 26. The German military forces in Denmark have been placed on an emergency footing as a result of new acts cf sabotage last night, says the Danish news service Stockholm correspondent. Tanks are now reinforcing the German soldiers patrolling the streets of Copenhagen, in which machine-gun posts have been erected on strategic sites. The Germans have introduced the death penalty for the possession of arms. The Associated Press Stockholm correspondent states that between 200 and 300 Danes have been arrested in Copenhagen since the Germans began their intensive effort on Monday to wipe out the underground movement. Commenting on the isolation of Denmark from Sweden, the “Allehanda” says: “It is being eagerly discussed in Sweden whether certain measures are not being prepared against us. Sweden must be ready every minute for fateful surprises. We hope to present a preparedness sufficient, but should a sharpening of preparedness be needed it must not give cause for dissatisfaction.”
