DAIRY INDUSTRY ___ GOOD SEASON EXPERIENCED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The dairying industry has experienced a very satisfactory season. Factories in the district are closing down for the season, and it is anticipated that the new season will see a greater number of cows milked, thus further increasing the supply of milk to the factories. Herd testing is making steady progress in the district and its value is being more widely recognised by farmers. The local factory has been turning out an excellent article, thanks to the keen interest taken by the staff in their work. WOMEN’S DIVISION SERVICES RECOGNISED. A meeting of the local Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday. Mrs J. McAnulty presided over a good attendance of members. The acting secretary was directed to write a letter of sympathy to Mrs Noel Adams (Dominion President) in connection with her illness. It was decided to support the Advisory Board’s action in appointing Mrs E. B. Orr as acting Dominion President until a Dominion Conference was held. A presentation was made to Mrs E. Albrechtsen who had been president of the Plunket Society for the past 13 years. Mrs A. S. Carter (president) presented a beautiful shoulder spray to the guest of honour, as well as a cup and saucer and an electric toaster in appreciation of the work she had done for the Plunket Society. Mrs Albrechtsen suitably thanked the Society for the gifts. A competition (the most words made from “Plunket Society”), was won by Mrs G. Hansen. The Plunket committee acted as ha st esses. Mrs M. Petersen was presented with a spray in honour of her 70th birthday. Birthday Party. Mrs Mary Petersen, of Pleckville, celebrated her 70th birthday on Wednesday. She was born at Tawa Flat. Mrs Petersen’s twin sister, Mrs Maher, of Utiku, was unable to be present. A birthday cake was provided and neighbours and friends were entertained at afternoon tea. Mrs E Albrechtsen, an old friend wished Mrs Petersen many happy returns of the day. Mrs Gorringe, a sister from, the Lower Hutt, was present and also her daughter Mrs Doig, of Palmerston North. Church Service. A Presbyterian Church service will be held at Eketahuna tomorrow evening commencing at 7.30 o’clock.
