BOROUGH ESTIMATES

FIGURES FOR CURRENT YEAR REVENUE AMD EXPENDITURE. MAINTENANCE & OTHER WORKS. Estimates for the current year were approved by the Masterton Borough Council at its meeting last night. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, said the effect of the estimates would be to put up the general rate by Jd. over last year's rate. The library rate was up a very small fraction and the only other increase was one due to the increased hospital levy, the rate for which was increased from 4,:;d. to 61d. on the capital value. The committee had considered very carefully proposals in which it might save the ratepayers any increase in rates but the only way in which that could be done would be to put off some of their men. He did not think any of the councillors would want to do that. The estimates are as follow: ESTIMATED EXPENDITURE.
