SUNK BY AMERICAN AIRCRAFT
Off the Aleutian Islands R *“ OTHER ENEMY WARSHIPS DAMAGED DIRECT HIT ON AN AIRCRAFT-CARRIER , LONDON, June 15. Five Japanese warships and a transport have been damaged off the Aleutian Islands, a Washington communique reports. The warships comprised three cruisers, a destroyer and a gunboat. AFTER THE COMMUNIQUE HAD BEEN ISSUED, LIEUTEN-ANT-GENERAL ARNOLD (CHIEF OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY AIR FORCE) STATED THAT UNITED STATES TORPEDOCARRYING AIRCR/iFT HAD SUNK A JAF’ANESE CRUISER AND SCORED A DIRECT HIT ON A JAPANESE AIRCRAFT-CARRIER, OFF THE ALEUTIAN ISLANDS.
