EKETAHUNA
COUNTY COUNCIL CHAIRMAN RE-ELECTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Eketahuna County Council Cr. J. B. Carruthers was re-elected chairman for the ensuing twelve months. This is the twenty-seventh consecutive term Cr. Carruthers has held the office of chairman. The estimates for the current year were considered and adopted. These provide for the levying of general rates for the current yeai' on the same basis as for last year. The expenditure for the year exclusive of interest payments and expenditure from bridge loans, was approved at £31,000. In regard to the flood damage which occurred in May, 1941, figures covering work already carried out showed that the net cost to the Council at March 31, was £2,124, and it is estimated that a further amount of £2,450 will come to charge this year, making in all a net cost to the Council of £4575. Personal Items. Pte. Noel Payne underwent an operation for appendicitis in the Dannevirke Hospital yesterday. His condition is reported to be satisfactory. The many friends of Miss Dulcie Boustead, Alfredton Road, will regret to learn that she is an inmate of the Masterton Hospital.
