The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall concluded their term of residence at Auckland this morning, when they left for their first official visits to Te Kuiti and Taumarunui. They will resume residence at Government House, Wellington, next Friday. The death has occurred at Hastings of Mr W. Mathews, a former Hawke’s Bay golf champion, and prominent tennis player and bandsman. At Karori on Saturday the death took place of Mr C. C. F. J. Bell, who had been for forty years in the service of the Otago Education Board as a teacher. He was a well known Free Mason. The Rev. Father John Mcßae, 0.F.M., from the Franciscan Monastry, Auckland, is on a visit to Masterton and will conduct an 8 days Retreat for the Sisters of St. Bride’s Convent, Masterton. It is announced that Captain J. Rankine and Captain A. S. Dalgleish, two well known senior masters of the Union Steam 'Ship Co., Ltd, have resigned from the company’s service for private reasons.
