FEATHERSTON

WEDDING HOLMES—BURT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A quiet but pretty wedding took place on Saturday, April 18, at the Presbyterian Church, Featherston, when Miss Frances Eva Burt, second daughter of Mr and Mrs F. R. Burt, of South Featherston, was married to Mr Gordon Walter Holmes, second son of Mr and Mrs L. Holmes, of Petone. The groom was attended by his brother, Lewis, and Mr Richard Burt, brother of the bride. The bride was escorted by her uncle, Mr A. Y. Burt. The Rev. Couling officiated, and Mrs Clarke was the organist. The bride wore a charming frock of powder blue wool romaine with navy accessories, and carried a bouquet of pink spider dahlias and blue hydrangeas. The bride was attended by her sister Jean, who wore a frock of fuchsia blue French crepe, and the bridegroom's sister Joyce, whose frock was of clover pink romaine. Both carried sprays of dahlias and wore halos of pastel tinted flowers. The reception was held at the Featherston South Hall, where relatives and friends were entertained. 'The guests were received by Mrs F. R. Burt, who wore a navy ensemble and shoulder posy of autumn flowers, and Mrs L. Holmes, who wore a burgundy ensemble, and carried a posy of autumn dahlias. The newly married couple later left for the north.

Euchre and Dance. There was a large attendance at the euchre and dance held in the South Featherston Hall on Thursday night. The prize winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Chisholm, 1; Mrs Currie, 2; men, Mr N. Burt, 1; Mr F. Benton, 2. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Hyland and partner. Mr S. Te Tau provided the music. Much appreciated extras were played by the Misses Tocker (2), G. Fraser and Mr B. Frew. Mr H. Graham capably carried out the duties of M.C. A competition for a sucking pig was won by Mr C. Rasmussen.

Personal. Weekend visitors to South Featherston for the Holmes—Burt wedding were, Mr and Mrs Holmes, Miss Joyce Holmes, Miss Betty Smith, Petone; Miss Ena Baldwin, Hamilton, and Miss Margaret Burt, Wellington. Mrs Bull, of Wellington, is staying with her mother, Mrs Bain, Featherston. Red Cross. There was a good attendance at the euchre tournament held on Monday afternoon. The cards winners were Mesdames Elder, Wendon and McKenna. The bedjacket donated by Mrs Noble was won by Mrs J. McKenna. Donations of goods were received from Mesdames R. Yule, H. Lawson, H. Buck, E. J. Carlyon and A. W. Edwards and Miss Eva Card. Results of the examination held recently in Hygiene and Sanitation, are as follows: — Elementary: — Passes: Misses Nola Reed, Elva Reed, Mrs W. Feast. Intermdeiate: Mrs J. Halpin, Misses J. Hardie and G. McTaggart.

British and Foreign Bible Society. At the annual meeting of. the British and Foreign Bible Society held on Monday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church Hall, the following officers were elected: —President, the Rev. J. R. Higgs, 8.A., L.R.G.S.; vice-presidents, Mesdames S. Burd, F. Bladin, A. Peene, Arch. Clark; secretary and treasurer, Miss Edna Wilkinson. Various collectors were appointed. Mrs Wakelin, Wellington, gave an interesting address on the work of the society in New Zealand and abroad.

COSY THEATRE “BUSMAN’S HONEYMOON.” The year’s laugh and love mystery thriller—“Busman’s Honeymoon,” will be shown tomorrow night. It is a riot of fun and thrills, with Robert Montgomery, Constance Cummings, and Leslie Banks.
