GARDEN PESTS

MAKE-WAR ON THEM. Now is the time to take offensive action against those pests which, if you neglect them, are liable to play havoc with fruit and vegetable crops later in the year. A great deal of work and worry can be saved in summer by attacking these troubles at the source. The grubs of many moths and beetles are present in the soil now in a dormant condition, and a soil fumigant will account for a great number' of them. Napthalene is one of the easiest to use. It should be used at the rate of one pound per square yard and forked well in beneath the top spit. Crude napthalene is equally suitable for forking in at the same rate round the base of the fruit trees, where the grubs of many moths and sawflies take up their winter quarters.
