OBITUARY
MR ARTHUR NICOL. The death occurred in Auckland last Thursday of Mr Arthur Nicol, a former well-known resident of the Wairarapa. He was born in Masterton about 60 years ago. He went to school in Masterton and later became associated with various newspapers in New Zealand as a reporter and advertising manager. In Masterton he took a keen interest in sport and was one of the original playing members of the Red Star Football Club. He was also a keen cricketer and played for Wairarapa. He left Masterton about 30 years ago. He was a member of one of the early New Zealand contingents in the Great War and was badly gassed, from which he never - recovered, being practically in hospital for a long period of years. The late Mr Nicol, who was a son ot the late Mr and Mrs James Nicol, of Masterton, leaves a widow, two daughters and a son, Sergeant Major Nicol, who is with the New Zealand forces in Egypt. He also leaves three brothers, Messrs J. R. Nicol (Te Aroha), George Nicol (Picton) and L. Nicol (Masterton). The sympathy of a wide circle of Wairarapa friends will be extended » to the relatives in their bereavement. ’’
