WAR SUPPLIES

[ HELP FROM AUSTRALIA MR SEMPLE SATISFIED 1 WITH MISSION. NEED OF UNITED EFFORT RECOGNISED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Satisfaction with his mission to Australia in-connection with supplies of materials for New Zealand’s war effort was expressed by the Minister of National Service (Mr Semple) on his return by steamer. “I travelled thousands of miles in Australia and Inspected every munitions works and other developments in connection with the production of war materials,” said Mr Semple. “I met the greatest courtesy from the heads of the supply and development organisation in the Commonwealth. My mission has been to search for raw materials and finished articles for war purposes in New Zealand. Australia has promised to treat us on the same basis of supply as any State in the Commonwealth —a most satisfactory arrangement.” j Mr Semple said he was amazed at the developments he saw. Australia was on the eve of big things, but it would be some time before new ventures now under way would come into full production. Everyone whom he met, including the Australian War Cabinet. accepted the principle that New Zealand and Australia should work together' in the closest co-operation, realising that their mutual defence and safety are inseparable. “We must pool our' resources and work together as never before to gain victory.” Mr Semple added.
