VICARAGE FOR TINUI

SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN MAGNIFICENT SPIRIT DISPLAYED. EXCELLENT RESPONSE YESTERDAY. A magnificent spirit was displayed at a meeting of parishioners of the Tinui Parochial District held in the Tinui Public Hall yesterday. The Ven. E. J. Rich, Archdeacon of the Wairarapa. who presided, said that they had met for a hard task but we belonged to a race which was not afraid of hard tasks. The Right Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, gave an inspiring address. The snow on the Rimutakas, he said, had reminded him of England and of the part played by Vicarages there as centres of village life. They had met to initiate a campaign which would provide such a Vicarage for Tinui. Already there was £305 in hand, and in view of the splendid way parishioners were tackling their urgent and hard task the Diocese was making a grant of £2OO to the fund. Members present then announced their gifts. The Vestry started, their donations amounting to £237 10s in. addition to £lO6 given by them previously. This splendid lead in sacrificial giving, as the Bishop called it, was followed quickly by many others, until in a very short period the total gifts amounted to £533 18s 6d. This sum, added to the former fund and the Diocesan grant, amounts to £lO3B 18s 6d. The Bishop and the Archdeacon spoke of how thrilled and proud they were of such a response from a small parish. It was magnificent. The Doxology was sung as an act of thanksgiving.

The serving of afternoon tea brought a very happy meeting to an end. The Rev. W. Tye and Mr W. H. French thanked the Bishop and the Archdeacon for their great help. It is confidently hoped that with the help of others unable to be present at the meeting the whole sum required for the Vicarage will be given, and the Vestry plan to have the work carried out at the earliest possible moment. The following donations were made yesterday:—Messrs W. H. French £25, F. W. Bartholomew £25, John Andrew £5O, H. G. Groves £5O, G. Groves £25, Attack £5, A. Speedy £lO, N. Groves £22 10s. H. H.
