STATE THEATRE

"THE GREAT DICTATOR” TONIGHT Charlie Chaplin's masterpiece, "The Great Dictator,” which has been drawing crowded houses at the State Theatre for several nights, will be finally shown this evening. Anyone who sees the noted comedian's latest . comedy will be certain to leave the theatre refreshed by the memory of an evening of hilarious fun such as only the genius of Chaplin can produce. Although the production is nearly all Chaplin, Oakie is more Mussolini-esque than that modern "Caesar” himself. Other excellent characterisations are given by Billy Gilbert as a' Goering-like "Herring,” and Henry Daniel as a Goebbcls-like "Garbitsch.”

"TALL. DARK AND HANDSOME." fall. Dark and Handsome," which will be shown tomorrow at the State Theatre, has laughs, excitement, romance, grand music and a top-notch featured cast headed by Cesar Romero, Virginia Gilmore, Milton Eerie and Charlotte Greenwood. Funnv as it is throughout, the new film has'riproaring drama, and a fine romance between suave Cesar Romero and lovely Virginia Gilmore, newcomer who appears lo be going places fast on the screen. With emphasis on the unexpected, "Tall. Dark and Handsome" is a real entertainment package. Things start happening with the rapidity of Tommy-gun fire when the dapper, big shot gangster, Cesar Romero (who hasn’t the heart to kill), is attracted to Virginia Gilmore, a department store nursemaid. Posing as a “father,’' Cesar induces Virginia to take a job as nursemaid in his palatial home. Cesar is taken for a "ride” .... but lives to watch his own funeral! All the men he has "rubbed out” come to life and in' a madcap finish he gets his adversary put behind bars. Provincial (Thursday)
