CARTERTON
COURT SITTING MOTORING & OTHER CASES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided over the monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court held at the Courthouse yesterday afternoon. > Ernest A. Spicer was charged by the 'police that on May 9 at Carterton, he failed to give way to and allow to pass, traffic approaching on his right, at the intersection of High, Belvedere ,and Parkvale streets. He pleaded not guilty and after evidence had been given was lined £1 and 10s costs. The police proceeded against R. Bassett (Mr D. L. Taverner) stating that on June 6 at Broadway, Carterton, he drove a car without due care and at- ■ tention. Defendant’s car was parked in Broadway and other vehicles had come along and blocked to a certain extent defendant’s, free exit. In trying to get his car cut, defendant hit one of the others, causing slight damage. After evidence had been taken an agreement was arrived at. The Magistrate made no conviction but ordered defendant to pay the expenses of two witnesses, 5s each.
LADIES’ GOLF DRAW FOR SATURDAY’S GAMES. The following is the draw for the Club Medal round and C. K. Goodin Trophy to be played on the Taratahi links on Saturday:—Miss Berril v Mrs Candy; Mrs Colson v Mrs Harrington; Miss Campbell v Mrs Moroney; Mrs Callender v Mrs Johansen; Mrs Orr v Mrs Murray; Miss B. Freer v Miss Smart; Mrs Forbes v Miss I. Corlett; Mrs Robinson v Miss Armstrong; Miss Peters v Mrs Hasty; Mrs Court v Mrs V. Corlett; Miss Hamer v Mrs Nix; Miss Lawrence v Miss Lindop; Mrs Knowles v Miss Z. Freer; Miss P. Bredin v Mrs Martin. Mrs Johansen and Miss Hamer will be in charge of the afternoon tea arrangements. . Euchre Tourney. There was a fair attendance at the euchred tournament held in the Band Roflm on Tuesday afternoon, under the auspices of the Carterton Women s Labour League. The. highest points for first prize were scored by Mrs R. Jackson and the second prize went to Mr? A. Thompson. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Barrett, Green and Thompson. A competition for a dinner was won by ticket No. 17. Miss R. Jemmison. Boy Scouts. The weekly card evening of the Boy Scouts was held last evening and despite the bad weather there was a good attendance. The prizes were won by Mesdames K. Hodder and F. O'Keefe and Messrs C. E. White and J. Amrnunds’en. Supper was afterwards provided. Children’s Court, Two local children were before Mr Lawry, S.M.. yesterday, at a sitting of the Children’s Court.
