RIMUTAKA ROAD

STILL IN DANGEROUS STATE. PASSAGE OF CARS NOT ADVISED. The Rimutaka Hill Road is still in a dangerous condition for motor traffic. owing to snow. It is possible to negotiate the highway by the use of chains but motorists are not advised to attempt a crossing at present. The snow is up to 18 inches deep and it is emphasised that it is impossible to negotiate the road without the use of chains, and even then a car with plenty of power is necessary. Several private motorists who have ignored warnings have got into difficulties and in consequence are blocking the road to other users such as service-car drivers, who are endeavouring to keep to schedule.
