ATTACK SUSTAINED
ON THE INDUSTRIAL HEART OF GERMANY HAVOC IN COLOGNE & DUSSELDORFF OFFENSIVE IN DAYLIGHT ALSO CONTINUED. DIRECT HITS GN ENEMY SUPPLY SHIP. LONDON .Tune 18. Last night British planes once again caused widespread destruction to Cologne and Dusseldorff, which received special attention. Many fires were started, the targets being heavily bombed. After the seventh night attack in succession on the industrial heart of Western Germany. British aircraft were again active on the French side of the Channel this afternoon. Bombers, escorted by fighters, made another offensive sweep across the Straits of Dover and targets near Boulogne are believed to have been attacked. Enemy activity over this country was negligible. Some damage was caused on the East Coast and a few casualties resulted. One enemy bomber was destroyed. A communique this evening states that a very small number of enemy aircraft flew over the coastal area in the south-west this afternoon. Up to 8 p.m. there were no reports of any bombs having been dropped. Coastal Command aircraft attacked an enemy supply ship of 1,500 tons off Brest. Two bombs scored direct hits amidships and it is believed that they exploded in the engine room.
