COSY THEATRE

"TOPPER.” It may seem incredible that despite the number of mystery stories on the screen an entirely novel plot is possible but here it is. '“The Longest Night,” which Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer brings to the screen of the Cosy Theatre, is placed entirely in a mammoth department store. There, amidst lingerie, cooking utensils and basement bargain hats, there is murder along with mystery, mirth, and a corking good romance between the store owner’s son and, of course, a pretty salesgirl. The reaction of the capacity crowd last night, was decidedly enthusiastic. The picture brought familiar scenes, but arrestingly unusual situations and plot twists. Robert Y'oung plays the lead with Florence Puce, an extremely attractive young lady, who is on the way to stardom, according to Hollywood indica- | tions. An unusually capable cast includes Ted Healy, Julie Haydon, Catharine Doucet, Janet Beecher, Leslie Fenton, Sidney Toler, Paul Stanton, Olin Howland, Kitty McHugh, John Hyams and Minor Watson. The story was adapted from the popular novel. “Whispering Window” by Cortland Fitzsimmons. Errol Taggart directed the picture and he has done an excellent job. Lucien Hubbard and Samuel Marx were the producers and Robert Andrews wrote the screen play. The second feature is the amazingly brilliant comedy, “Topper” with its glorious cast headed by Cary Grant, Roland Young, Constance Bennett and a grand cast. A riot from first to last of sparkling fun this delightful story of "spooks” is everywhere acknowledged to be one of the outstanding comedies the screen has ever known.
