WEDDING

TAPINE—BOYD. (“Times-Age” Special.) A pretty Maori wedding was celebrated at the bride’s home, Greytown, on Christmas evening, when Horiana Gwendoline Pamela Boyd was married to Joseph Haeata Tapine, Takapau. The bride's uncle, the Rev Apostle Hector Manihua, of the Ratana Church, performed the ceremony. The bride is a great-great-granddaughter of the late chief Hoani Rangitakaiwaho, Papawai. Her father is a cousin of Sir Apirana Ngata, and son of the late Mr G. G. Boyd, of Silverford, Napier. Her great-grandmother was Ngahoari, a daughter of Te-Tahana Turoa. The bridegroom is the only son of Makere Naera, and Mika Haeata Tapine, grandson of Te Paea Heremia and Tapine Haeata, Wairoa. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely white taffeta gown with silver stars on the bodice and short puff sleeves, and long, white mittens. Her white and silver veil was surmounted by a coronet of orange blossom and carnations. The matrons of honour who attended the bride were Mrs Manihera and Mrs Mark, both in full Maori dress. Two flowergirls were cousins of the bride, and bridegroom. Queenie Kaeo and Lulu Mark. The best man was Mr George Te Whaiti. At a reception following the ceremony. the toast to the bride was given by the M.P. for Wairarapa, Mr B. Roberts, and the bridegroom’s toast was proposed by Mr Len Pike. Te Whiti, Masterton.

The honeymoon was spent in Takapau and Napier, and their future home will be in Greytown.
