LABOUR PARTY DANCE AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Band Room, Carterton. was well filled when the local women's branch' of the Labour Party held a very successful dance. The music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra, and extras were played by Mr Jack Mansell on the bagpipes. The M.C’s. were Messrs Bassett and J. Mansell. The winners of the Monte Carlo dance were Miss June Bree and lan Galvin, and the Lucky Spot waltz Miss M. Green and Mr F. O'Keefe. The "Fairest Lady'' competition was won by Miss. Madge Green, the runner-up being “Jessie.” The arrangements for the gathering were in the hands of an energetic committee of ladies consisting Mesdames Miller, Bradbury, Benge, Oberg, Bassett and Green. BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES. Games in the club championships have been advanced a further stage as under:— Champion singles: Robertson beat W. Hart, 24/10; A. Thompson beat G. Hughan, 22/8; Martin beat J. Harp. 18/1(1. ■ Champion pairs: Bain and Tucker (s) beat Callender and Martin (s), 22/10. Progressive pairs: Newbould and Hughan (s) beat Hawker and Sorensen (s), 22/2; Newbould and Sorensen beat Hawker and DeLacey (s), 30/10. BOY SCOUTS ENJOYABLE CARD PARTY. . There was a good attendance at the weekly card party held in the Band Room last evening by the Boy Scouts. The prizes were won as under: —Ladies: Mrs J. Hooper, Mrs Bradbury and Mrs Challis (equal), 1. Men: Mrs C. Meyrick (acting), I; B. Challis, 2. The consolation prizes went to Mrs Jackson and Mr P. Hodder. Half a dozen Carterton Boy Scouts in charge of Scoutmaster T. Ray, left Carterton this morning on a bicycle trip over the Rimutaka Hill, through the Akatarawa Gorge, Otaki, Levin, Shannon, tc. Palmerston North, Wanganui and home again via the Bush district. They will be away until January 22, and if weather conditions are favourable they will camp out en route. The boys have been eagerly looking forward to the outing and were in good spirits when they started on their long journey today. Personal Items. The many friends of Mrs J. S. Laurenson will regret to hear that she has been compelled to enter the hospital at Rotorua. She was on a trip to the thermal regions when she took ill. Mr and Mrs H. H. Trapp (New South Wales) who are on a holiday in New Zealand, are at present at Rotorua. Miss O. W. Wolters, of Carterton. is Visiting Rotorua. Mr W. Pearson, of Auckland, and erstwhile of Carterton, is visiting friends here. Before returning to Auckland he will go to Wellington to see his daughter. Slaughter of Fat Lambs. Large numbers of fat lambs, totalling some thousands, have been, during the past week, slaughtered at the Waingawa Freezing Works. In addition many thousand head of stock, as well as pigs, have been railed to Wellington Freezing Works.
