Miss Milford’s arrival was shrouded in melodramatic secrecy. A notice at the harbour gate prohibited any but authorised entry. Miss Mitford was carried on a stretcher from a boat to an ambulance, which drove off at high speed, but the ambulance broke down, and an accompanying car suffered a puncture. The party returned to Folkestone lor the night. _______
